Wheat Bread

1 package of yeast

1 tsp. sugar

½ cup warm water (not burning hot but hotter than lukewarm)

1 can evaporated milk

4 tbsp. water

4 tbsp. of melted butter

4 tbsp. honey

2 tsp. salt

2 cups whole wheat flour

3 cups white flour

Dissolve the yeast in the sugar and water mixture. Let it sit for about 15 minutes until it turns creamy. Then add all the other ingredients with the flours being last. Add the flour slowly and stir as you go. Then knead on a floured surface until it’s smooth and not sticky. Wheat bread has a stickier texture than white bread and it is a little harder to work with. If it seems really wet and sticky just add some more flour. Put it in an oiled bowl covered with a damp towel for about an hour to rise. Then punch it down and put it in greased loaf pans. Let rise again. Probably about a half hour or so. Then bake. I am not sure how long, maybe about 25 minutes or so. You’ll smell it. I drizzle some honey on the top right after I take it out of the oven.

Amish White Bread

2 cups warm water

2/3 cup white sugar

2 pkgs of yeast

1 ½ tsp. salt

¼ cup veg. oil

6 cups flour

Melted butter (maybe half a stick)

Dissolve sugar and water with the yeast until creamy. Add salt and oil then flour one cup at a time. Knead and put in an oiled bowl. Let rise for one hour then punch down and put into loaf pans. Let rise for about a half hour then pour melted butter over it before you cook it. It gives it a nice glaze.

Amish Whoopie Pies the easy way!
You can double this if you want more. That’s what I did.

1 box of devils food cake mix. Mix it up as directed on the box and then add one cup of flour. Then put rounded teaspoonfuls on a baking sheet. Just like you were going to make cookies but make them as close to the same size as you can. They take about 8 minutes or so. Just watch them though because the bottoms burn if you’re not careful. Then put them on a cooling rack.
The way I did it was I baked all of the cookies first and then put them in a big platter. You need a tub of vanilla frosting (one tub was enough for a double recipe). match up the cookies and put the frosting in the middle. Kind of like a oreo or a devil dog.
